DIY: Aurelie Bidermann inspired lace cuff

31

DIY Lace I’ve long lusted after Aurelie Bidermann’s luxe lace cuffs (in goldsilver, and silver plate.)  I love the statement they make (and how as I said on Sunday, all you need is one.)  That said, the price on these just is not right.  Bidermann takes actual lace and dips it into precious metals to form her cuffs so I’m sure they’re worth the hefty price tag, but I knew there had to be a similar way to get the look at home.  I’ve been sitting on a ton of antique lace that I’ve done very little with, but couldn’t figure out how to get it stiff/formed into a cuff until I stumbled upon Aleene’s Stiffen Quik.  The product turned out to be the missing link I was needing – this is a very easy project!

Lace Cuff DIY - materials

What you’ll need / Where to Buy:  Gold Spray Paint // Aleene’s Stiffen Quik // one 6-7″ piece of wide lace (get a kind that is at least 3″ wide.  Etsy has some great options, like this one) // empty beer bottle (not pictured) // Large Brass Cuff Form (I used this exact one)

Voila… allow to dry (and ventilate..) and you are all done!

Looooooove! Curious — where do you spray paint in the city? I need to find a place to paint outside here!

Haha, I do it in our window sill. The sills are actually big enough to accomodate a posterboard. It’s very convenient!

Oh wow ! this is so amazing. I just found you on IFB and so happy that I did.

I have a gold cuff too, which I couldn’t wear much ( I felt it is too much bling) But now you just gave me a solution.

I am new to DIY so do not know if Stiffen Quick will be available here( India) but I am so in love with idea that I have to make it work somehow for you !

Thanks a tonne for this one !

LOVE this idea. DIY jewelry is so hard to do – some of it can come out so wrong (..I know this firsthand). But this is great! I’m definitely inspired.

  1. Outfit Pretty in Pink | Stripes & Sequins - January 14, 2013

[...] Forever 21 has always been my dirty little fashion secret – just because they have so much good, on trend clothing.  The thing is though, after a few wears the piece doesn’t always look so great.  Over the past year or so I’ve stopped shopping there so much in favor of purchasing with intention… adding higher quality, wear-forever pieces to my wardrobe vs. things that will get thrown out after a few months.  But sometimes I just can’t resist.  Over the holiday break, I snagged this coat (so obsessed) amongst other things.  I’ve been wearing it constantly and it shows no signs of letting up so far.  I paired it with my new-to-me collar, a striped tee, and of course – Tuesday’s DIY.
