A few weeks ago, during my little Brooklyn Flea excursion, we stumbled upon a little shop called Apotheke. My sister practically had to drag me away… everything just smelled so good. Soaps, candles, salves, and serums… I wanted to take it all home. I ended up buying this incredible salve, but luckily they have an Etsy Shop… pure trouble… I plan on placing an order pronto. Being a curious cat, I got to chatting with the owner and was able to learn little bit more about the brand. They are three years old and based in Brooklyn. Everything is made in their loft, in small batches. (Don’t you just love that!? So much better than a big factory.)
To create the soaps, they mix fixed oils… like coconut, olive oil, shea butters and cocoa butters together and saponify them with a super fatted lye solution. The soaps are then cured for 6 weeks. They only use essential oils – never perfumes or fragrance oils. Each soap is individually hand wrapped in 60% recycled velum paper. They have up to 32 customizable soap fragrances that can be made to order and also offer soap making classes. (I need to do this!!)
As for the candles, they are made with 100% soy wax, hand poured, and (also) made with pure essential oils. The wicks are cotton and dipped in beeswax (never petroleum.) They burn about 65 hours with no black soot or smoke. The packaging is out of this world, and produced locally.
